What's Old is New

Hey love bunnies! I feel like it's been ages since I've talked to you all!! (again, it's only been a couple days in reality). I feel like I have quite a bit to talk about. Let me start with the trip I took to my mother's house. Jake and I went to my mom's for a specific reason, but every time I go over there I find an item of clothing or shoes that I forgot about when I moved. So, literally, every time I visit her it's like I went shopping. Well, this time I went on a mini spree :) My mom has lost a bit of weight, so none of her clothes fit her well anymore. And it has been a lonnnnnnng time since my mom and I have worn anywhere near the same size. But since I've lost about 35 pounds since the birth of my son, we are finally neck and neck, and I'm elated. She's a twig lol. Anywho, it was much to my surprise that I could fit my tail into the size 8 GAP jeans she handed me, the size medium Bebe dress, and my size medium GAP dress! I felt sooooo good. I had never really noticed my weight loss because I still wore all the same size 12 clothing, but I did kind of notice things fit a bit loosely. But when I tried those clothes on, I felt amazing! The best part was when I tried on a pair of Express jeans that I bought many moons ago, and they never fit well from the day I bought them. They usually gave me a severe muffin top and squeezed the life out of my thighs. But I slipped these beauties on, and voila! They fit like magic! I actually wore them yesterday and later in the day they began to get looser :) So, at the end of our fashion show (because I tried on every single piece) I ended up with four pairs of jeans, two dresses to be worn as skirts, two more dresses, and about five tops, SCORE!!!! I'm so excited for you guys to see these pieces, and when I do I'll be sure to note that I got them from my mini spree lol. So, all of this is to say, when you feel as though you have absolutely nothing to wear and your wardrobe is bothering the heck out of you, go shopping in your own (or your mother's) closet. Sounds weird, huh? Well, you may not think so, but it is so fun and easy to make something that was once old, NEW. How, you say? You can start by switching up pieces. Wear things together that you never thought of pairing and watch how it breathes new life into those boring jeans or plain tee that you've worn a million times. Another way is to do some alterations to your clothing. You can do this by sewing or not. For example, in this post I wore a pair of old jeans that I bleached in a tie dye pattern and I love them. I also destroyed a pair of thrifted jeans by cutting them into shorts and then cutting a few holes in them and voila! they're like a whole new pair of shorts. It's amazing the things you can do to breathe new life into old pieces. I encourage you all to try it at least once. Trust me, you will be amazed. Oh...one last thing. As inspired by The Style Climber, you can take a cardigan that you may be sick to death of wearing, and simply wear it backwards. Sounds crazy, but I tried it and it is super cute! And you feel kind of sexy when you turn around and see a little exposed back (grrrrrrrrowl). Have you guys shopped in your closet lately?? If so, do tell! I'd love to hear what you guys did!

Oh. And for my Chicagoans,  go support my bestie Simone Stephenson, in her efforts in campaigning for the one and only Barack Obama! There will be a fundraiser held June 26, 2012 and the First Lady will be making an appearance. Tickets are $44 and $100, I believe, so it's a total steal! Head on over to this site to snag your tickets and for more details. They will go quickly!

Toodles!!
